Water Service Rate Increase

445 127 The Point Owners Association, Inc.

This is a periodic update from The Point Owners Association, Inc. (POA) Board of Directors of matters that may be of general interest to the community. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to other residents in The Point.  Additional information about our neighborhood is available at https://thepointatlkn.com

The e-mail below was sent out to The Point residents yesterday regarding an application for a water and sewer price increase. For those trying to fill out the online form with the NC Utilities Commission (link at bottom of e-mail), you will need to include Docket No. W-354, SUB 364.

Neighbors,
Residents in The Point were recently notified that Carolina Water Service of North Carolina (CWSNC) has filed an Application with the North Carolina Utilities Commission for authority to increase rates for water and sewer utility service within their service areas. The Point has been designated for a pilot program for the newly proposed rate structure. CWSNC intends to implement the proposed rates on a temporary, interim basis (subject to refund) effective for service rendered on and after January 28, 2020 (if the Commission has not entered a final order by that date).

The following are the rates for the Conservation Rate Pilot Program – The Point Service Area:

The actual impact of the new rate structure is shown below. These are real numbers based on a current Board Members annual usage (2-person household with landscape irrigation).

In this example, the proposed rate structure would increase the annual water expense by nearly 30% or $454 annually. We encourage all residents to look into how the new proposed rates will impact your household and to please get involved.

The NC Utilities Commission has scheduled the Application for public hearing for the Charlotte area at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 5, 2019, Courtroom 5350, Mecklenburg County Courthouse, 832 East 4th Street. The POA Board also plans to contact the Commission to request a meeting be held in the Mooresville area to hear our concerns regarding the Application submitted by CWSNC.
